Customers are advised that a meter that freezes and breaks must be replaced by the water company. The charge to the customer is $150.00 for a standard residential water meter replacement. Local plumbers must also report to the water company when a frozen meter has been repaired so the meter can be replaced. This meter replacement results in a $150.00 charge to you, the customer. If the water meter is replaced after regular work hours (3:30 pm - 7:00 am), on a weekend or holiday, the charge will be $200.00.
Avoid these unnecessary costs by protecting your water meter from freezing. It is not only the customers responsibility... it makes good sense.
